Frequently Asked Questions
We love talking about jewelry refining at Garfield. Please feel free to email or call us directly with any questions. But as a starting point, some of these FAQs may help!
What kind of material should I send?
The most common jewelry made from precious metals we receive from jewelers include engagement and wedding rings, bracelets, chains, and watches. Note: If you’d like your diamonds removed from engagement rings or other jewelry, please contact us first at (800) 523-0968. Along with jewelry, Garfield also accepts precious metals found in bench sweeps and casting grains, filings, grindings, and coins. These materials are often overlooked sources of value that could result in thousands of dollars in revenue.
How long does it take to get my payment?
We have the fastest turnaround times in the industry, and most payments are made within 24 hours of processing your precious metals. We offer ACH direct deposit payments so that you can get paid quickly. If you choose payment by check, the check comes via the USPS and FedEx and could take 2-5 business days to arrive. You can also choose payment in the form of wire transfers, coins, casting grain, or bullion and select from a wide range of coins from our bullion store.
Is my precious metal safe?
Garfield takes the safety of your precious metals very seriously. We track your materials from shipping to receiving the payment and fully insure each shipment for up to $50,000. Each shipment is separated into its own lot and given a barcode when it arrives at our refinery, so you know you’re getting an accurate evaluation and the maximum payout for your material.
How will I know when Garfield receives my jewelry scrap?
We’ll send you a confirmation email alerting you that the precious metals have arrived at our facility the moment we receive your package. And of course, you can call our customer service line any time at (800) 523-0968 to get updated on the status of your shipment.
When should I sell my precious metals?
Garfield recommends selling your jewelry scrap 4 times per year and using a strategy known as dollar-cost averaging (DCA). Jewelers who use DCA regularly sell their scrap regardless of what the price is at the given time. DCA takes out the guesswork of trying to time the market when precious metals prices are the highest, which can protect you in a volatile market.
