Garfield Refining is proud to call Philadelphia home. We’re fortunate to have a Tacony Creek Park trailhead less than two blocks from our refinery in North Philly!
This week the Garfield team partnered with the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership, who works to connect local residents and communities to their creeks through education, stewardship, restoration and advocacy. They are all about empowering local communities to take care of the watershed.
Tacony Creek Park is huge, spanning roughly 5 miles through several neighborhoods of North Philadelphia. The entire Tookany/Tacony-Frankford watershed spans 30 square miles, with the creek eventually flowing into the Delaware River just south of the Betsey Ross Bridge. If you’re local to Philly and would like to get involved, you can read more about the TTF Watershed Partnership and all of their awesome programs and events on their site.
Garfield participated in a park cleanup, clearing trash throughout our local section of Tocany Creek Park. We were shocked at how much trash we were able to collect! It was great to get outside together and get involved. Sustainability is at the core of Garfield’s mission, and we prioritize making a difference in our own backyard, aside from our day-to-day operations recycling precious metals.
Whether it’s a park cleanup, tree-planting or donating to local non-profits and charity organizations, giving back here in Philadelphia keeps us grounded and connected to our core values. The team is looking forward to our next park cleanup event!
