Refining FAQ’s
Q - Why can’t we get a quote on the phone or the website?
A - The price of gold fluctuates on a daily basis. Also, until our trained staff analyzes an item and performs a test on the material, we have no way of independently verifying that the item is as it is represented to us. Since any price we would quote in advance of receiving your items would be different from the actual offer, we simply avoid this practice.
Q - What is a "Transaction Kit"?
A - The Transaction kit is comprised of all the shipping materials you will need to send in your items to our refinery. We provide you with all the materials you need and pay the cost of shipping and insurance.
Q - What type of items can I send in?
A - We accept anything containing gold, silver, platinum, palladium and other precious metals, such as necklaces, charms, bracelets, rings, earrings, cufflinks, pins, watches or other jewelry. Coins, collectibles, decorative pieces, silver flatware or similar items are also acceptable. If it contains precious metals, we can refine it... even dental work!
Q - Can I send in stones/precious gems?
A - Although we accept items containing precious gems and other stones, we are not in the business of recycling these items. If you plan to send in an item that contains a stone which you believe to be valuable, we strongly recommend removing the stone prior to sending it in to us.
Q - How long does it take to process my check?
A - Your check will be issued within 24 hours of your items being appraised. Please allow sufficient time for the US Postal service to deliver your check to you.
Q - What happens if I change my mind?
A - Garfield Refining offers a satisfaction guarantee. If you are unhappy with the amount you receive for your jewelry, simply call our toll-free number and return the check so that it arrives in our offices within ten (10) days of the date that appears on the check. After we receive your check, your items will be returned to you within 15 days.
Q - What happens if I forget to call and return my check?
A - In the event we do not receive a call from you and our check returned within ten (10) days, we will process the property you have sent to us. Once processed, the property cannot be recovered.
Q - Does Garfield Refining return my non-precious items?
A - Items not containing precious metals will not be returned by Garfield Refining unless you request these items be returned to you at your expense. Your items will be sent COD.

anytime or send an email to info@garfieldrefining.com
Bullion FAQ’s
Q - What is bullion?
A - Bullion is basically gold or other precious metals, in bar or coin form, that is certified as to weight and purity. This certification permits it to be recognized internationally, and therefore easily redeemable anywhere in the world.
Q - Why is the price for bullion higher than the spot price?
A - Bullion is a manufactured product. There are costs in production, distribution and marketing, just like any other product. The banks, mints and governments that issue bullion sell it for a profit, as do distributors and dealers.
Q - Do you buy bullion back?
A - We buy back any bullion that was sold by us, at spot price. We purchase bullion that we did not sell at a slight discount. Bullion that is in poor condition can't be resold and is therefore purchased as scrap.
Q - Why are some coins only 22 Karat?
A - The one troy ounce U.S. Gold Eagle and the Krugerrand, for example, are both 22 Karat coins, but they contain a full troy ounce of gold. They weigh about 1.1 troy ounces to compensate.
Q - Why don't you carry larger bars?
A - It's fairly impractical to own larger bars do to liquidity. Most dealers can easily handle a transaction of several ounces, should you wish to sell locally. Most cannot purchase large bars on the spot.
